A Clare Independent TD believes the Justice Minister must face political accountability for the depletion of Gardaí and rising crime throughout the country.
The government will hold a vote of confidence in Minister Helen McEntee in the Dáil from 3:30pm this afternoon.
The Fine Gael Minister looks set to comfortably survive the vote though, with 88 TDS already having signalled their intention to back her, while Kilrush TD Violet-Anne Wynne is among the deputies to have entered a pairing arrangement.
Scariff Deputy Michael McNamara believes however that a change is needed in the office to instil confidence in rank and file Gardaí.
