The level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital has spiralled once again, as the weekend approaches.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation shows there were 113 patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick during morning rounds, 45 of those in the ED.

The overall figure is almost double the next busiest facility; Cork University Hospital, where 60 patients were on trolleys this morning.

According to the figures, 595 admitted patients were left waiting for beds at hospitals across the country this morning.
