Clare Social Housing Chair Says Local Authorities Must Be Backed In 2024

The Chair of Clare’s Social Housing Committee insists the government must entice developers to build affordable homes to have any hope of tackling the accommodation crisis.

It comes as the year is set to finish with 2,774 households on the local authority’s approved social housing list.

Under the current Part V obligations on planning permissions, developers are required to build at least 10% of units on an acquired plot of land as social homes.

Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn believes however that the publics needs would be better suited if county councils concentrated on social housing and developers on affordable schemes.
