It’s anticipated that Clare’s first ever affordable housing project will be completed by June.

Clare County Council has received approval from the Department of Housing to construct 10 such dwellings in Shannon, while an application for a further eleven affordable homes in Ennis is awaiting approval.

Under the scheme, local authorities assist those on moderate incomes to own a home, by purchasing and retaining a stake in designated properties.

Clare SPC Chair and Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn believes these homes will most likely be made available to people who are marginally above the threshold for social housing.
