A Clare childcare provider is pleading with the government to carry out a “serious review” of the sector.

It comes as Early Childhood Ireland has called for a coherent five-year plan to address the challenges facing the sector and to bring Ireland in line with other developed countries.

Among the issues said to be affecting providers are excessive red tape, soaring bills and recruitment issues, with Clare’s 100 such facilities recording a staff turnover rate of 20% in 2021.

Noel Mulderrig of Kidz Haven Shannon, who is beginning a phased closing process of his facility this year, says increased administrative work in recent years has been detrimental to providers.
