Tests at Ballyalla Lake, Ballycuggeran, Bishopsquarter, Cappagh Pier, Fanore, Kilkee, Lahinch, Mountshannon, Seafield, White Strand, Doonbeg and White Strand, Miltown Malbay all returned excellent results.

This marks a continuation of the county's pristine record in 2014.

A number of Irish beaches failed to meet minimum EU standards however, including Ballyloughane in Galway, Youghal in Cork, Duncannon in Wexford and Loughshinny, Rush South and Merrion Strand in Dublin.

Peter Webster from the EPA says despite having poor water quality, the country's beaches are not out of bounds
