A Clare Publican believes new government proposals aiming to keep cash in circulation need to be extended across all sectors of the economy.

Under the ‘Access to Cash Bill’ introduced to Cabinet this week, convenience stores and pharmacies will be obliged to accept notes and coins as payment from those who prefer to use it as they provide essential items.

The plans will also compel the Central Bank to provide more ATMs throughout the country to ensure people can withdraw cash in their localities.
