Renters in new tenancies registered with the Residential Tenancies Board in Clare paid over 23 percent more in rent than those in existing tenancies.

New research from the ESRI shows renters in a new tenancy in the third quarter of last year paid an average of 1,145 euro a month, compared to 873 paid by those in existing tenancies.

The increase is higher than the national average of more than 17%, with new tenants nationally forking out close to 1,600, compared to 1,357 for those already renting.

One of the country’s leading housing charities says it’s becoming increasingly frustrating for tenants looking for property to rent.

CEO of Threshold, John-Mark McCafferty, says Rent Pressure Zones have had a moderate effect.
