Carrot Rather Than Stick Approach Proposed To Deter Anti-Social Behaviour In Kilkee

Children were reportedly left visibly “frightened” following anti-social behaviour in a popular West Clare amenity at the weekend.

Kilkee Playground and Astroturf was forced to temporarily close its doors on Monday due to loitering, littering, smoking and verbal abuse perpetrated by a group of teenagers.

The amenity is managed by a committee made up of parents as well as community activists and is supervised by members on a rota.

Joanne Dillon, who’s an active member of the committee, claims disrespectful behaviour of this nature is utterly inexcusable.

Meanwhile, a carrot rather than a stick approach has been proposed as a means of deterring unwanted behaviour in the West Clare town.

Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy believes if young people had more to do, they wouldn’t be inclined to behave in such an inappropriate manner.
