Ennis Carpets Clare Cup semi-final: Newmarket Celtic 5-0 Fern Celtic

Newmarket Celtic booked their spot in the Ennis Carpets Clare Cup final with a comfortable 5-0 win over Fern Celtic.

The Second Division outfit are to be commended for the manner in which they battled to the end, but the gulf in the pace both sides could operate at was evident.

It took 18 minutes for Newmarket to open the scoring with Eoin Hayes being the provider for Tadgh Noonan to nod home.

Newmarket had to work hard before double their advantage as Jack Kelly found the net, and any hopes of a fairytale were dashed when Nathan dispatched a penalty following a foul on Noonan to make it 3-0.

Newmarket introduced Darragh Leahy from the bench late on, and he made the most of his time in Frank Healy Park as he notched a brace in the closing quarter to put a gloss on the score line.

Bridge United and Avenue United clash in Doora tomorrow evening for the right to take on Newmarket in this year’s decider.
