The average cost of renting a home jumped by 9.5% at the start of this year.
The latest quarterly report from Daft.ie shows tenants across the county were forking out 1,356 euro a month, on average, between January and March.
It’s almost double the amount being paid out by some home owners during the same period, with the average mortgage repayment for a three bed semi-detached house calculated at 715 euro.
The report shows the increase in rents reflects very low availability, with only 240 homes available to rent across all of Munster on May 1st.
Author of the report, Ronan Lyons says building rental accommodation just isn’t profitable.
