Extremely high numbers of admitted patients have been left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick today.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 141 patients on trolleys during morning rounds, the second highest figure ever recorded at any Irish hospital.

This number was only exceeded on one occasion since records began; on February 7th this year, when 150 patients were on trolleys at UHL.

Today’s overall figure is 81 more than the next busiest facility, Cork University Hospital and comes on a day when there were 552 admitted patients in total waiting for beds at hospitals across the country.
