A planning application has been lodged for the construction of 28 homes in West Clare.

Clare County Council has submitted separate applications for two housing developments in the Kilrush area consisting of 12 and 16 homes, respectively.

West Clare’s largest town could see a welcome boost to its housing stock if planning permission is secured for two residential developments.

An application was submitted on May 23rd for a development on Moore Street consisting of 16 new residential units in four separate blocks made up of eight one-bedroom apartments, one two-bedroom apartment, five two-bedroom duplex units and two three-bedroom units.

This application has since been withdrawn but a similar application has been submitted on May 30th for a four-block 16-home development comprising eight one-bedroom units, three two-bed units and five three-bed units.

The development would also include ancillary car parking spaces and bin stores.

It’s noted as part of the construction process. the demolition of two existing buildings as well as the partial demolition of an existing commercial unit, sheds and outbuildings would be required.

In addition, planning permission is being sought for a housing development on the Back Road in Kilrush consisting of 12 residential units made up of two one-bedroom single-storey houses, two two-bedroom single-storey houses and eight two-bedroom single-storey houses, as well as 16 ancillary car parking spaces.

The applications for both developments state that Environmental Impact Assessments aren’t required as preliminary examinations have found there’s no likelihood of significant effects on the environment.

Public submissions on the Back Road and Moore Street developments must be lodged by August 5th and 12th, respectively.

The Council Planning Department must reach a decision on the Back Road development by August 29th, while it has until September 5th to decide if the Moore Street development gets the green light.
