Pupils of a West Clare school could be reaping the benefits of a significant expansion in the near future.

Plans have been submitted for a two-storey extension to the main building of St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Spanish Point which would see additional classrooms as well as other facilities introduced.

The Board of Management of St. Joseph’s Secondary School submitted its planning application to Clare County Council on July 10th.

The school is looking to construct a two-storey extension to the existing main building which would accommodate general classrooms, toilets and storage facilities.

The application states that an external covered canopy would connect the main building and the proposed extension, while an additional single-storey extension to the Technical Building would also be built and would consist of a link corridor, two classrooms and service rooms.

As part of the development. the existing boiler would be relocated and an extension to the existing gas compound would be constructed.

Third-party submissions relating to the application must be in by August 13th and a decision will be reached by the Council by September 3rd.
