Lahinch GP Insists Ireland Must Match International Conditions To Retain Doctors

A Clare GP says Ireland needs to match international conditions and standards to retain doctors.

A new Medical Council report states increasing pressure on GPs is a result of a growing and aging population, poor morale, burnout, general practitioner shortages, and other related factors.

According to the Irish Medical Organisation, 25% of general practitioners are currently at or approaching retirement age.

Lahinch GP and member of the IMO’s GP Committee Dr Michael Kelleher says excessive hours deter young doctors from the sector.
