Clare’s IFA Chair is imploring the Government to put a stringent plan in place to secure the restoration of Ash trees into the future.

It comes as Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Senator Pippa Hackett has opened a new scheme to compensate farmers who have replanted plantations impacted by ash dieback.

Under the Climate Action Performance Payment, landowners will receive €5,000 per hectare replanted in three instalments.

Feakle farmer Stephen Walsh fears there will be a major drop in production if the scheme’s not managed correctly.
