A North Clare man predicts a major honour bestowed upon him will take a local tourist attraction “into a different realm”.

Farmer and businessman John Davoren, who established a tourism and educational hub on his land in the Burren in the mid-nineties, has been awarded an honorary doctorate in science by the University of Galway.

The hub has since become Caherconnell Archaeological Field School which has received accreditation from University of Galway and has been attended by hundreds of students to date.

John says he never expected such an accolade but is hopeful the publicity leads to more people coming to enjoy the rich history of Caherconnell Fort.
