Clare County Council has given the green light to 74 housing loans in the past two years.
New figures released by Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien show the council has been recommended to approve just 43% of the 171 local authority home loan applications it’s received since January 2022.
The scheme is open to first-time buyers earning below €70,000 per year and successful applicants can receive up to €270,000 towards the purchase of a new or second-hand property.
Clare County Council’s Senior Executive Housing and Integration Officer Padraig MacCormaic insists more people should consider the local authority when trying to source a home.
