A Clare Councillor is calling for a life saving overdose reversal drug to made available over the counter from local pharmacies.
Nalaxone can be administered to someone suffering a drug overdose to reverse and reduce the effects of the opiods, but is currently only available via prescription.
Ireland currently has one of the highest drug fatality rates in Europe – with an average of one person dying every day from a drug overdose.
Shannon Sinn Féin councillor Donna McGettigan says the drug has been proven to save lives and it’s vital that it is rolled out for this reason.
