It’s been suggested a late Clare musician should be remembered among those who’ve made the largest contributions to the county.

Tributes are being paid to iconic traditional Irish musician Cyril O’Donoghue who passed away over the weekend.

The Shannon native carved out a reputation as one of the finest singers and accompanists in Irish music – playing with bands such as Fisher Street, Damp in the Attic and Providence, and in recent years being best-known as the musical partner of Blackie O’Connell.

A celebration of Cyril’s life will take place in Shannon Crematorium at 3pm today.

Musican, storyteller and father of Blackie, Oliver O’Connell, says every tourist who ever came to Clare left as a better person having met Cyril.
