There has been a mixed reaction in Kilrush to a new IPAS centre set to come on stream.

The Central B&B will be imminently providing accommodation for up to 27 Male International Protection Applicants after signing a one-year state contract last week.

So far there has been some controversy, with guards already investigating an incident of criminal damage at the property.

Two local groups have issued statements so far condemning the act and welcoming the new refugees, namely the West Clare Family Resource Centre and the Young People of Kilrush.

One community group has come out against the new IPAS centre, the ‘Kilrush Says No Group’ has been holding daily marches and demonstrations, whilst carrying placards outside the building.

For more on this, Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan spoke with members of the Kilrush community, starting with the organiser of Kilrush Says No, Roy Danaher.
