The lives of children in Clare are reportedly being thrown into chaos due to a lack of adequate school transport.

Data released to Kilrush Independent TD Violet-Anne Wynne has revealed that the Government spent €2.4 million on taxis to bring Clare children to school in 2023 which was 53% more than the figure for the previous year.

The Department of Education claims roughly 2,300 taxis were used nationwide in the 2023 to 2024 school year to provide transport to children with special educational needs.

Kilrush Independent TD Violet-Anne Wynne has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons she believes Government failures in forward planning and duty of care have led to a school transport system in crisis.
