Tax Break For Hurley Making “Only Fair” Clare Manufacturer Says

A renowned Clare hurley maker insists introducing a tax break for his sector is only fair.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohue has ruled out categorising hurley making as an art form, which would have meant it would have been eligible for tax breaks.

The artistic tax exemption scheme allows writers, painters, musicians and sculptors to earn up to €50,000 a year tax-free if their work is recognised as having ‘cultural or artistic merit’.
