Residents in the Westbury estate in South East Clare are expressing alarm at news that a controversial social housing development there is finally set to proceed.
Construction on the 22-house project will begin at the end of this year, on a parcel of land once owned by Chieftain Construction, which was taken over by NAMA in 2011.
Over 100 residents objected when planning for the homes was granted in 2014, amid concerns about the overdevelopment of the estate – which is the biggest in Munster – and the added pressure that would arise.
