The Newmarket man defeated fellow former intercounty referee Rory Hickey in a vote at the March meeting of club delegates.

The exact tally of votes was not disclosed with chairman Kieran Keating informing those present that the winner would just be declared once ballots had been counted.
The meeting also heard that progression on the hiring of a Head of Operations will be made in the next three months, with the chairman confirming that a copy of county secretary Pat Fitzgerald’s contract of employment had been submitted to Croke Park as part of the process.
