“Over-Reliance On HAP Curtailing Clare Social Housing Builds”

It’s claimed an over-reliance on HAP tenancies is curtailing the delivery of social and affordable housing in Clare.

New CSO figures show that 1,430 households in this county were availing of the housing assistance payment at the end of last year.

The scheme which enables those waiting for a social house to temporarily source private rental accommodation via a monthly supplement from the local authority had 270 exits here in 2022.

Ennis Sinn Féin PRO and member of Clare County Council’s Housing Committee Tommy Guilfoyle however says the practice of funneling money into the private sector is defeating its purpose.
