Clare homeowners are being reminded of the irreparable damage that could result from an oil tank leak.
It comes as Clare County Council has launches its “Oil Tanks – Safe Check” campaign which is aimed at raising awareness around preventative measures that can be taken regarding leaks in home heating oil tanks.

Leaks typically occur in tanks that are of advanced age and the most common causes are cracks in the tank itself and the disintegration of the line from the tank to the residence.
Environmental Awareness Officer with Clare County Council Karen Foley is warning that if tanks are not routinely checked, numerous environmental and health issues could arise.
