More Than 100 Patients Waiting For Beds At UHL Despite Dip In Trolley Numbers

In excess of 100 admitted patients were left waiting for beds at the region’s main hospital today.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 106 patients on trolleys during morning rounds, down from 109 at the same time yesterday.

The overall figure is 27 more than the next busiest facility; Cork University Hospital, and comes on a day when there were 702 admitted patients waiting on trollies at hospitals across the country.

The Health Minister says some hospitals are failing to clear their weekend patients, leading to an increase in trolley numbers.

Minster Stephen Donnelly says he’s met with the HSE to ensure the right rostering is in place for the next few weekends.
