Last Minute Agony For Clare With Defeat To Westmeath By The Minimum

Clare have lost out to Westmeath by the narrowest of margins in their National Football League Division Three campaign opener this afternoon.

After finding themselves ahead by six points at the break, Mark Fitzgerald’s side came under pressure in the second half with a disallowed goal for Aaron Griffin adding to the Banner’s woes.

Six consecutive points from Westmeath were followed by an equaliser from Clare’s Brian McNamara but Ronan O’Toole put the midlands side ahead in the sixth minute of additional time to seal the win.

The final score was Westmeath 1-11 Clare 0-13.
