Clare Footballers Left To Lament Slow Start In Cork Defeat – Fitzgerald

Clare football manager Mark Fitzgerald admits a slow start proved costly as Cork ran out winners in the opening round of the All Ireland series.

The Rebels emerged two points winners in Cusack Park with the foundations for the victory being set with an interval lead of 1-6 to 0-4.

Aaron Griffin’s goal brought Clare back into the contest in the third quarter and while parity was restored with just over ten minutes to go, it was Cork who found the crucial scores to take back control.

Fitzgerald says while it was an honest effort by his players, they left too much ground to make up.
