Tribute To Clare Author Edna O’Brien

Tributes are pouring in for acclaimed Clare author Edna O’Brien, who has died aged 93 after a long illness.

The Tuamgraney native’s book ‘The Country Girls’ , the first in a trilogy of books, caused controversy in 1960 and was banned.

She went on to write over 20 books over a career spanning six decades.

President Michael D Higgins says she has been one of the outstanding writers of modern times, her work has been sought as a model all around the world.

On Monday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by County Arts Officer, Siobhán Mulcahy and Ennistymon’s Vincent Browne, Manager of Charlie Byrnes Bookstore in Galway.
