Clare Cyclists Undertake Momentous ‘Cycle4 Des’ Challenge To Raise Awareness Around Oesophageal Cancer

A group of Clare cyclists are undertaking a momentous challenge this weekend to raise funds, and awareness around Oesophageal Cancer.

Around 500 people in Ireland are diagnosed every year with the disease affecting the oesophagus, which is the food pipe that runs between the throat and stomach.

This coming Sunday “Cycle4Des” will embark on a 136 kilometre round trip from Clooney Quinn to Athenry and back in aid of The OCF; a national charity focussing on raising awareness around the condition, risks and symptoms, and delivering early diagnosis and successful treatments.

The event has been organised in memory of Clare man Des Lynch, who lost his battle with Oesophageal Cancer in September 2021, and his son Fergal says it’s a horrendous and agressive disease.
