Clare Family Says Issues Arising From Mothers Death At UHL Have Fallen On Deaf Ears

A Clare family whose mother experienced deficits in her care before she died at University Hospital Limerick is calling for the recommendations of a report into her death to be urgently implemented before more lives are lost in vain.

Brigid O’Loughlin from Inch passed away from mesenteric ischemia in 2017 and a subsequent investigation raised significant concerns over sepsis treatment protocols and overcrowding in the Emergency Department.

The report was published over five years before Shannon Teenager Aoife Johnston passed away at UHL’s ED after waiting over 12 hours to receive the appropriate bundle of sepsis medication.

Brigid’s daughter Martina O’Loughlin has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that past concerns have fallen on deaf ears, leading to preventable deaths.
