New Clare Kidney Association Chair Aiming To Fast-Track Ennis Dialysis Unit

The newly appointed chair of the Clare Kidney Association is hopeful their advocacy will expedite the delivery of a dialysis unit in Ennis.

In May, the Government confirmed a renal care provider had been identified to operate a satellite service at Ennis General Hospital, but this is not expected to be up and running until late 2025.

The Clare branch currently has over 80 members travelling from throughout the county to Limerick and Galway for dialysis treatment, which involves the assisted removal of excess water and toxins from the bloodstream.

 

Chairperson Dermot Hayes says the journey times involved are particularly exhausting.
