The Clare man leading efforts by the United Nations to clear explosives in Ukraine has described the drone element of modern warfare as terrifying.
Newmarket-On-Fergus native David McMahon commenced training in explosives ordnance and demining after volunteering to go to Cambodia in 1993 and since then he’s operated in Afghanistan, Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Sudan.

The Ukrainian conflict is unique, though, as the war is ongoing and has so far claimed well in excess of 30,000 civilian lives.
David, who’s currently in Kyiv for his work, believes the local population will be severely affected by Post-Traumatic-Stress for years to come.
