Opening hours at the Medical Assessment Unit in Ennis General Hospital will be extended from next week.
As part of plans first announced by the Department of Health in April, the Ennis MAU will now operate sixteen hours from 8am until 12 midnight.
The extension of hours will also apply to Nenagh Hospital from Monday and HSE MidWest plans to open both facilities on a 24/7 basis by the end of this year.
Since 2020, over 26,000 patients have been treated at the Medical Assessment Unit in Ennis.
The Medical Assessment Unit treats patients referred by their injury unit, GP and Shannondoc.
A wide variety of medical complaints are seen in these units and all patients attending the MAU are reviewed by a senior clinician and can receive require x-rays, blood tests, scans or further diagnostic imaging.
