Clare Offshore Wind Zoning Map To Be Developed Next Year

A map to zone areas off Clare’s coast for offshore wind projects will be developed next year.

It comes just one week after ESB received planning permission to convert Moneypoint from a coal-fired to heavy fuel oil facility, ahead of its eventual transition to a renewable energy hub by the end of the decade.

The Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce report, launched last June is aiming to create 10,000 new green jobs in the region by 2035, but crucial to this is a Designated Maritime Area Plan, which the Government has yet to develop.

 

Responding to Clare Senators Roisín Garvey and Timmy Dooley in the Seanad, Minister Ossian Smyth confirmed a D-MAP will be made for this county next year.
