Approval has been granted for a development which it’s claimed will improve the standard of wastewater treatment within a Clare settlement.
Following a planning application submitted by Uisce Éireann in June for significant alterations to the Inagh Wastewater Treatment Plant, Clare County Council has now officially given the go-ahead.
Uisce Éireann submitted its plans for the development at the plant in Carrowkeel West in Inagh to the Council’s Planning Department on the 5th of June this year.
The application seeks to construct a new bypass channel at the inlet works as well as a new stormwater holding tank, new sludge-drying reed beds and a new return pumping station.
Additionally, it’s stated ancillary site development works including hard and soft landscaping will be required.
After initially assessing the application, further information was requested by the local authority on the 26th of July in relation to a number of concerns, including that the proposed storage capacity of the holding tank wouldn’t be sufficient to deal with rainfall.
The requested information was provided by Uisce Éireann on the 5th of September and on the 9th of October, the application was approved subject to seven conditions.
Among these conditions are that the “best available technology” be used to minimise noise impact, and that construction take place between 8am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday, with no works to be carried out on Sundays or public holidays.
