An elderly brother and sister who had to be rescued from their Clare home are today counting the cost of flood damage.

The two who are both in their 80’s were lifted by fire-fighters from the house at Drumore in Ruan yesterday afternoon after torrential downpours left them standing knee high in water.

Many areas across the county were hit by the heavy rainfall yesterday with section of some roads impassable.

The main Ennis to Lahinch road was closed for several hours at Kilnamona and then further serious flooding developed on a section of the diversion route.

Part of the Ennis to Gort road was also waterlogged at Ballyline, there was Yefurther flooding on the Gort to Corofin road and a section of the Ennis to Kirlush road was also affected.
