The Environment Minister has said he hopes to implement plans for a new Limerick Local Authority including a boundary extension into parts of South East Clare before his government leaves office.

It’s reported John Gormley wants to bring the Brosnan recommendations to amalgamate Limerick City and County Councils and include the Clare Communities of Westbury and Shannon Banks to cabinet before the general election in the New Year.

And in an interview with the City Voice, a newspaper written by journalism students at UL, Minister Gormley says he hopes the full plan can be implemented, as he has every confidence in Mr Brosnan.

The comments are likely to anger members of the Clare Against the Boundary extension group, and Minister Gormley has acknowledged "different views within the Government about" the "controversial" issue.
