Heavy snowfall across County Clare overnight has led to many roads being in a dangerous condition this morning.

Motorists are advised to take care, particularly on back and local routes, many have which have been untreated.

It comes as groups across Clare are urged to avail of grit dumps, set up by Clare County Council to enable the treating of back and local routes.

Community groups across Clare have been invited to avail of grit should it be required.

Over 60 dumps have been set up at sites across Clare – a full list of exact locations can be found by logging onto Clare FM’s website, www.clare.fm

The Council advises that the grit is to be used on local public roads which are not treated by council crews.  Groups are advised to prioritize hilly sections in particular and not to use it in private driveways.

The council’s decision to roll out these salt dumps comes despite warnings from the NRA that local authorities should use supplies sparingly until fresh deliveries arrive next week.

Significant snow fell on Clare last evening as the current cold snap began to take hold – Met Eireann has warned that the icy conditions will likely last up until Christmas at least.
