Residents living close to a proposed new Youth Centre in Ennis are to be represented on an advisory committee regarding its use.

Construction is well underway on the Youth Cafe and Resource Centre at Cloughliegh Road in Ennis, but members of Ennis Town Council have expressed concerns that residents views on the running on the Clare Youth Service facility must be met.

The Clare Youth Service is due to take up a 10 year lease on the Youth Cafe and Resource Centre in Cloughliegh later this year in what’s described by the Ennis Town Manager a positive step for the area, but controversy has surrounded plans for the building with local residents raising their concerns about its proximity to elderly people in the area last year.

Ennis Town Council made a commitment  that residents would be consulted at all times, prompting a report last evening in which it was stated that the Youth Cafe will open between the hours of 8am and 10pm only, the council will reserve the right to inspect the premises and that no nuisance or dangerous behaviour will be allowed in the area.

The conditions are set to be included in a lease which will also state  2 residents will join council representatives on an advisory group regarding the services to be proivded at the centre.

The Clare Youth service says the centre in Cloughliegh will promote learning and development, and work to empower young people to be creative and active in society
