It’s hoped a new Fast Ferry Commuter service from North Clare to Galway City could also provide a welcome tourism boost for the Burren.
Feasibility studies for the Ballyvaughan Bay Hop are being carried out in the North Clare and Galway areas this week, while business interests and tourism providers are also being asked for their input at a public meeting on Friday.
Those involved in the project say they’re confident the necessary demand exists for the fast ferry service and could even move to trials for such a boat crossing later this year depending on funding.
Gwen Ryan spends up to an hour and a half travelling from Ballyvaughan to work at NUI Galway each morning and is confident that others like her would use the Bay Hop service as an alternative
