It’s claimed that the latest figures on troop movement through Shannon underline the importance of the US Military’s use of the MidWest airport.
It’s reported that in the last decade, over 2 million passengers used Shannon, with almost 8500 tonnes of cargo passing through there at the same time.
2005 was the busiest year, with 336,000 personnel using Shannon, but last year that fell to around 230,000
With the Obama administration pressing ahead with troop withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan, Shannon Councillor Patricia McCarthy says it’s clear companies will have to expect further drop-offs going forward
