Small Firms express concerns over awarding of public contracts

A new study out today claims the government’s policy of awarding public contracts to the cheapest bidder is hugely damaging to Irish enterprise.

The survey by the Small Firms association shows that almost two-thirds of Irish firms haven’t tendered to provide goods or services to the Irish public sector in the last three years.

Director Patricia Callan says most companies are frustrated by the government’s emphasis on price rather than value, and that it’s a huge lost opportunity in a market worth 14 billion euro.
