The government is to install container scanners at a number of Irish ports in an effort to intercept illegal tobacco shipments.

The move is one of five steps to be implemented by the government on the recommendation of the Small Business Advisory Group, which was established by the Taoiseach.

Other measures include developing a guide to encouraging small businesses in crisis to seek help, reviewing the cost burden of regulations and establishing a voluntary code of conduct on prompt payment within the private sector.
