Local representatives have hit out at a reduction of over 50% in the county’s allocation of funds to improve the homes of the elderly and people with disabilities.

Clare County Council has been allocatedjust under 1.5 million euro by the Department of Housing and Planning for works to improve these premises, down from 3 million last year.

549 people availed of these schemes in Clare last year, but the county’s funding provision has been reduced by over half for 2012, even though the nationwide allocation has dropped by just 15%.

Ennis Councillor and member of the Council’s Housing Committee Tom McNamara feels this is especially unfair, and will affect nearly 1,000 people accross Clare.
