Funding to provide social housing for people with special needs in Clare has been descrbied as "a start" in tackling the long housing lists in the county.

2.85 Million euro has been allocated to the county for the provision of 22 housing units in Ennis, Newmarket on Fergus and Clonlara.

The housing is specifically aimed at groups representing the elderly, homeless and people with special needs.

Killaloe Councillor and Clare’s Deputy Mayor Paschal Fitzgerald says there’s a need for more housing for those with disabilities and special needs, particularly given the long waiting lists for social housing throughout the county.
