Latin America returns to West Clare again next month, with confirmation of the second Che Do Bheatha Festival in Kilkee.

The event celebrates Cuban Music, Salsa Dancing and Latin American food, in memory of Che Guevara’s stopover in Shannon and Kilkee in 1961, where the iconic image of his face that now adorns T-Shirts and posters across the world was created.

This year Dr. Aleida Guevara, the daughter of the revolutionary guerilla leader and motorcycle diaries writer will open the festival and launch her mother’s book "Remembering Che", along with the Cuban Ambassador.

There’s been controversy about recent Irish celebrations of Che Guevara’s life due to his role in the Cuban revolution, but Cillian Murphy of Loop Head Tourism says the Kilkee event is more about cultural links than political rows
