Witnesses Sought Following Series Of Fires In Ennis Town Centre

Gardaí are continuing to question a man held in connection with number of fires at business premises in Ennis overnight.

At around 1.30am, Gardaí on patrol responded after recyclable material had been set alight near a phone shop on O’Connell street, and managed to extinguish it.

But just under an hour later, at around 2.20am, a second fire was lit outside a pharmacy on Abbey Street, which spread quickly and caused significant damage to the building.

Two units from Ennis Fire Service and Two from Shannon were dispatched to the scene and battled the blaze for a number of hours.

A man in his 20’s was arrested during follow-up searches and he’s being detained at Ennis Garda Section under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Detective Inspector Kieran Ruane has been speaking with Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill about the investigation, and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.
